CatFish

Filed under: connected — admin @ 9:00 am

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel’s brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives.

That is the pot of Catfish… But what Catfish is? Documental? Thriller? No one exactly knows!!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

But earthlier happy is the rose distilled
Than that which withering on the virgin thorn
Grows, lives, and dies in single blessedness.

Wake up. Day calls you.

Wake up. Day calls you
to your life: your duty.
And to live, nothing more.
Root it out of the glum
night and the darkness
that covered your body
for which light waited
on tiptoe in the dawn.
Stand up, affirm the straight
simple will to be
a pure slender virgin.
Test your bodys metal.
cold, heat? Your blood
will tell against the snow,
or behind the window.
The colour
in your cheeks will tell.
And look at people. Rest
doing no more than adding
your perfection to another
day. Your task
is to carry your life high,
and play with it, hurl it
like a voice to the clouds
so it may retrieve the light
already gone from us.
That is your fate: to live
Do nothing.
Your work is you, nothing more.

Some artists

Filed under: art — admin @ 11:03 am

After thinking about Tony Harrison last time I’d like to go waffle on a bit about spoken word artists today. It’s quite a good time for performance poetry and other spoken word adventuring at the moment. There are a number of great acts performing all around the country and a really good scene centred in London. Of all the men and woman working in this field at the moment my favourite is a guy who goes by ‘Polar Bear.’ An excellent poet and performer with an original and interesting viewpoint. This fella makes me laugh a lot but can also be extremely tender and moving. http://www.myspace.com/polarbearspoken Jessica is perhaps my favourite love poem. Boss.

Art: http://www.timeout.com/london/art/event/195034/the-moon-is-an-arrant-thief Pretty good all things considered I liked it anyway. Three stars is about right but these days that’s something of a ringing endorsement.

Time is against me today lovelies so this will be a pathetically short post. Out.
